8 Strange Divorces
The decision to divorce is a tough one for many couples. While some may view it as an end to a chapter, others see it as an opportunity for new beginnings. Many couples have divorced for various reasons, including infidelity, financial issues, and growing apart. However, some have ended their marriages for more unusual reasons. Keep reading to learn more about these interesting stories.
- Movie Opinions
For one couple in Japan, the movie Frozen proved to be a pivotal moment in their marriage. After watching the film together, the husband asked his wife if she thought it was really that good.
Unable to move past the perceived lack of understanding and compatibility, the wife ultimately moved out of their shared home. The power of media and personal preference cannot be underestimated, even in relationships.
- Gambling
A man in Russia made a fateful decision when he gambled his wife in a game of poker. Andrei Karpov had no money left to wager and offered his spouse instead. The outcome was not in his favor, and he lost both the game and his wife Tatiana to his opponent Sergei Brodov.
Angry, Tatiana divorced Karpov and began a relationship with Brodov, eventually marrying him. Tatiana stated, “It was humiliating and I was utterly ashamed. But as soon as my ex-husband did that I knew I had to leave him.”
- Secret Lover
After over 70 years of marriage, a 99-year-old Italian man surprisingly filed for divorce after discovering love letters written to a secret lover by his wife in the 1940s. Heartbroken, his wife confessed to the extramarital affair and begged for his forgiveness, but her request was denied.
It turns out that their marriage was not as smooth sailing as it first seemed. Despite the long years they had been together, it would seem that their marriage had its share of troubles.
- “Possessed By the Devil”
An Italian man filed for a divorce on the grounds that his wife was "possessed by the devil," due to her inexplicable behavior since 2007. The woman had exhibited body-stiffening, fits, and even self-levitation. Although the court acknowledged the behavior and granted them a divorce, it declined to attribute the behavior to the wife's fault.
- Make Up Conception
A man in his mid-thirties requested a divorce from his partner, a woman six years younger than him, immediately after seeing her without makeup just days after their wedding. Dr. Abdul Aziz Asaf, a psychologist at the clinic where the woman sought psychological help, revealed that the man felt deceived by his wife's use of cosmetics, such as false eyelashes.
On a trip to the beach, the man saw his partner without makeup for the first time when water washed it away.
- Political Parties
In the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election, political polarization continues to push individuals apart. A California woman left her husband of 22 years when she discovered that he had voted for President Donald J. Trump.
To her, his decision to vote for the current president was a "betrayal" that exposed deeper issues within their relationship. The woman noted that she felt like she had been “fooling” herself, and it made her realize how far she had gone in her life to accept things she would have never accepted when she was younger.
- Home Renovation
A divorce case in 2009 involving a German couple made headlines after the husband knocked down and rebuilt a wall in their home because it had gotten dirty. The wife had finally had enough of her husband's obsessive cleaning and furniture rearranging after 15 years of marriage, which led her to file for divorce.
- Winning the Lottery
In January 1997, a California woman filed for divorce after 25 years of marriage, but her husband was unaware of the real reason for their separation. It wasn't until two years later that the truth emerged. On Dec. 28, 1996, 11 days before filing for divorce, the wife had become a lottery winner, taking home $1.3 million.
She then took various actions to keep the money for herself, including filing for divorce. However, when the truth eventually emerged, a Los Angeles family court judge ruled that the woman had violated state asset disclosure laws and ordered her to give every cent of her lottery winnings to her ex-husband.
